I live below the desert sands of East Africa / in the dark I'm pretty scary I'm wrinkled and hairless with teeth that look like Dracula's / Yeah, I'm pretty ugly We're the only mammals to live in colonies / lead by a queen (bar the Brits) Most of us end up being batchelors / she only mates with three I'm a naked mole rat, and you've come here into my habitat Burrowing into my genes To see what can be gleaned For human beings As I said, we don't have much sex / we've also got deformed sperm But biologists main interest / is the fact we don't get cancer You can give us twenty packs of unfiltered cigarettes / it's never been observed Somewhere in our genes is a key to fewer deaths / so suddenly we're popular I'm a naked mole rat, and you've come here into my habitat Burrowing into my genes To see what can be gleaned For human beings The hunt is on to establish / just how we stay cancer free It looks like we've got a duplicate / overcrowding gene Most other mammals just have P27 / similar in functionality To our unique P16 / which gets turned on more quickly I'm a naked mole rat, and you've come here into my habitat Burrowing into my genes To see what can be gleaned For human beings

From Luca to you and me, There were millions of living beings, Steps taken In between LUCA lived on the ocean floor Where thermal vents kept it warm Then it started Something new A single cell LUCA split Into new cells that didn't exist different With different genes These child cells went their own way Had their own kids that also changed And started To populate the seas Chorus Evolution has led to everything that's lived Mutation means changes in the DNA of kids Natural Selection then decides Which species get to survive Verse Set 2 All the living things which Have DNA With each new generation that DNA may change DNA changes may lead to something new, If it's is good, the creature lives, If it's bad - bye bye to you If the creature thrives where it lives It is closer to perfection If it grows up, and has some kids That's Natural selection V3 Stick insects didn't start out Looking just like sticks DNA changes made each generation a little more like twigs The birds who would hunt them Would end up being tricked Into eating the less camouflaged ones so the stick type ones would live The ancestor of whales Was a cat-sized deer It used to hunt in shallow streams Ended staying their for years They evolved to swim and live Underwater Ending up as whales thanks to surviving Sons and Daughters Chorus Evolution has led to everything that's lived Mutation means changes in the DNA of kids Natural Selection then decides Which species get to survive
